How to Choose a Detailer for an Expensive Car (10 Questions to Ask)

6 min read · Detailing Bureau, Philadelphia

Detailing is unlicensed and unregulated. Anyone with a buffer can advertise paint correction, and the damage from a bad one is measured in thousands of dollars of respray.

The ten questions

Ask these in a text message before you book anything. The answers tell you everything.

  • Do you measure paint thickness before machine polishing? (The only correct answer is yes.)
  • What is your wash method? (Two-bucket with grit guards, or contactless — nothing else.)
  • Do you use the same towels on multiple cars? (They should be laundered and sorted by use.)
  • Which polish and pad combination would you start with on my paint, and why?
  • Do you carry liability insurance? (Ask for the certificate.)
  • How long will the job take? (A real correction and coating is a full day, not two hours.)
  • What exactly does your warranty cover, and for how long?
  • Can you show me before-and-afters of the same model or paint color?
  • Do you charge a deposit, or do you charge after the work is done?
  • Who is physically performing the work — you, or a rotating crew?

Red flags

A ceramic coating quoted under $300. A same-day correction plus coating. A refusal to inspect the car before quoting. Pressure to pay in full up front. A price that changes after the car is disassembled.

Also watch for photos taken only in shade. Defects are invisible in shade — that is the point. Insist on direct sun or a proper inspection light.

How we answer those ten questions

We measure paint before correcting, wash two-bucket or contactless, run fresh towels per vehicle, carry insurance, quote after seeing the car, and never take a deposit — we place an authorization hold and charge only after you have inspected the finished work.

Every appointment is run by the owner. When you text (267) 827-0316 you reach the person who will actually be standing next to your car.

A note on price anchoring

The cheapest quote in a luxury detailing market is almost always the most expensive outcome. Correction of a botched correction costs more than the original job, and a respray on a metallic or three-stage paint runs into four figures per panel.

Book it, or just ask

No deposit. We place an authorization hold on your card at booking and charge it only after the detail is finished and you've inspected it. Reschedule free by text up to 12 hours before.

Frequently asked

How much should a good detail cost in Philadelphia?

$89 for an express maintenance detail, $189–$239 interior, $329–$409 full detail, $499+ for paint correction, and $699+ for a corrected ceramic coating.

Is mobile detailing as good as a shop?

For everything short of full-vehicle multi-stage correction under controlled lighting, yes — and it saves you the drop-off entirely. We bring our own lighting, water and power.

Do you take a deposit?

No. We place an authorization hold on your card to secure the slot, and the card is only charged once the detail is complete.
